Our raison d'être

To provide an informal setting where any freemason living in or visiting Abingdon-on-Thames may meet to explore the ceremonies of craft freemasonry, discuss masonic topics and make an advancement in their masonic knowledge.

How we operate

The dress code for our meetings is informal but craft aprons are worn.

Each meeting of The Lodge of Instruction (LOI) is opened and closed as any private lodge would be, save that the lodge offices are allocated each meeting, so brethren may gain experience before appointment in a craft lodge.

The LOI will be opened to the degree which is the evening's topic, it follows that attendees must have already received the relevant degree.

The usual structure of our meetings once the offices have been allocated and the lodge opened a segment of one the degree ceremonies is worked, books may be used and queries are welcome during the work, the preceptors may also add tips and explanations if needed. There will then be time for a round the table discussion and any further questions regarding the evening's ceremony. Finally, a short talk or paper, is presented by one of the brethren, often one of the more experienced members, on some masonic topic or other.

The LOI is then closed accordingly.
